European and global extractive industries: Steps towards sustainable partnerships and responsible mining practice

The EU-funded Horizon 2020 project “Strategic Dialogue on Sustainable Raw Materials for Europe” (STRADE) addresses the long-term security and sustainability of the European raw-material supply from European and non-European countries using a dialogue-based approach. As part of this, the project consortium, including core partners Oeko-Institut e.V., S&P Global (formerly SNL Financial) and Projekt-Consult, are hosting an event in Brussels in June 2017.

We invite you – representatives from civil society groups, the mining industry, downstream industries, academia, and the EU and national levels – to the upcoming STRADE event:

Monday, 19 June 2017 (10:30-18:00) and Tuesday, 20 June 2017 (9:00-16:00)

The workshops seek to open dialogue between the project team and stakeholders in four key areas:
19 June:
a1. Dialogues between resource producers and consumers: Towards a new platform for sustainable minerals governance
a2. The perception of mining in Europe: The impact of social and cultural values

20 June:
b1. EU mineral resource cooperation with developing countries: Creating win-wins relationships
b2. EU knowledge platform on responsible mineral supply chains: A knowledge platform on EU mineral supply and related socio-economic and environmental hotspots

The event offers an interesting mix of industry, community and regional perspectives, allowing participants to exchange ideas with a wide stakeholder group. With parallel workshop sessions each day, participants will be able to follow panel discussions deliberating different viewpoints across common themes. The workshop provides you the opportunity to share your expertise and enrich your own understanding of responsible mining practices.
